Wonderful presentation, Doug. I just came home from visiting an international assemblage/collage exhibition that I have a piece in. I was thrilled and pleased to see that one of our own collage artists, annasandalaki has a piece of hers in it as well.
Ah---was this an exhibition that you mentioned quite awhile ago ? Or a new one ( sorry - memory on the fritz ! ) -- must be thrilling to see your own piece there ! -- did you stand behind anybody talking about your piece ? ah yes Anna -- I watch her -- good collage artist .
A collage is a difficult work to put together (from my perspective). Some take real thought to interpret or understand or develop an opinion of. It also takes intelligence and a keen awareness of the now, or of the past to fully develop an idea in these works that is understandable, and then an equal amount of the same to see what the artist portrays. Folks that are in a hurry may not see what is there nor want to take the time. Art is an expressed emotion of the community, be it small town North America, or the collaborative consciousness of the Northern Hemispheres internet. I hear what you are saying, but people are who they are, want what they want, and like what they like. I agree with you, but that will not change the populace. For what it's worth, respectfully...
I hadn't had time to read in detail the long answer, and have rarely provided such an extensive comment myself. Also noticed the words at the top of the journal has changed. I hope this is cordial conversation and exchange of ideas. That is all I intended.
It is cordial William - rest assured ! --- I just was not satisfied with my reply - also I had up two somwhat diffrent themes at the top and bottom ---hard to get ones ducks in a row sometimes so have now jettisoned the top questions . Feel like i'm swimming upstream against too strong a current at the moment
In my opinion the general population is afraid to venture outside of the box. They have to like what everybody is liking. They are afraid to say, I hate it, I love it, I don't know if I hate it or like it (what is everybody else saying?).
The true artist doesn't care how many likes or favs they get - they are not pushed forward by the stream of popularity, but are paddling upstream against common opinion and are motivated by their passion to create.
Thank you for your insight on this subject Tara -lee -- you make some very good points . We are a culture of followers looking for approval and acceptance in the quickest- least time consuming way possible. Luckily DA still has artists that care more about advancing their artwork --- ( some of the artists in this feature have long ago left DA -- luckily others remain ) . . . . cheers , douglas
You are dead right on that one ----- it says a lot about what is negative with America ---- ( about half of it's people don't 'think ' too much - nor are they very discerning - they just want a quick fix and are fooled by this ( easy to see through ) 'snake-oil ' salesman -- he's is more than a calculated risk at trying something different -- he's an 'unstable' time bomb - much of his following are almost 'cult- like ' in their blind trust and naivete . They've fallen hook ,line and sinker for right wing propaganda that tells them what to think -and then and then convinces them that they came to these conclusions on their own . It's a widespread 'sickness' ---- but we shall see what happens -----chaos is already on Americas door step .
He and many of the Republicans lie and when the lie is revealed...by the mainstream media...they deem them the fakes and continue to spread the lies. Trump especially...every word out of his mouth is a lie. I've heard people state he's the right choice because he has no ties to 'big business'. He IS big business...and he's loaded his cabinet with big business...and a racist and conspiracy theorist or two to boot. He's drained the swamp right into the White House. He acts like a school girl when criticized...like a bully when challenges.
I only hope there are a few Republican in the House and Senate with a conscience and a backbone to block him from doing some of the things he's got planned in the coming four years. I hope too the Democrats can get their act together in the next year or two to take back at least on of those arms of the Government. We lived through 8 years of the Republicans doing everything possible to block President Obama and keep him from getting things done...right from day one...now it's time for them to get a little taste of their own medicine with a lot of the things on Trump's agenda.
He has brought everything that is wrong in this country...and the world for that matter...into the light...he's given the worst of us a voice. We can't sit back and let them drowned out reason and truth and right.
It's pretty much the Trumpster , his marionettes ( and Putin ) versus the world ! ( um ----maybe -- not so funny eh ? ) ------ Hopefully Trump will be ousted -- but that leaves Pence and a Republican congress . It's just a fact that America shot itself in the heart . History will debate why ( if there is anybody left to record history ! ) ---- still - who knows what will really happen --all the signs are very bad right now ---- but ther is always a little hope to hang on to. ( in dark times - new alliances will be formed - maybe a better way will eventually materialize )
Yes...there are still folks like Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders and some of the younger generation of Democrats...and hopefully a few Republicans...who are committed to fight for the country and it's citizens. But we as citizens must also join the fight...we can't sit back and let others fight for us. People need...more than ever now...to get active...learn what they can do...learn how to wield the power we do have as citizens. Just because saner voices seem to be be getting drowned out right now it doesn't mean they are silenced...we just have to shout all the louder.
