Very neat use of broken symmetry for effect, Douglas. Limited palette, spot on focus, and clarity add to a memorable image.

"Snake oil salesman" was on old fashoined term for mountebankor flim-flam artist that probably dates from the frontier days of the old West, when men were men and horses were nervous. It's fascinating to see a collection of cleaned up 'snake oil' bottles, each of which doubtless contained some wondrous elixir that could anything from colic to male pattern baldness. What clinched it for me was the DES N THOMAS ECLECTRIC OIL. You have to admire old fashioned neologisms like 'ECLECTRIC'. I reckon that one must have been a combination tonic and laxative... maybe it made you 'get up and go'!

heheh . . . . I would suppose it was love of the bottle shapes , well placed decorative embossed lettering , and the way backlight passes through these bottles that was what motivated this composition - I'm sure I never read ' DES N THOMAS ELECTRIC OIL ( thanks for enlightening ) - they were like the words of a song that one has listened to for ages but never really listened to their meaning -- was just the subliminal effect they had on you that created a mood . . . . if that makes sense :)

Hi Lois - those were glass cylinders I got at a surplus store - I'm not sure what they were intended for - but when the sunlight hit them from the side they lit up kind of glowing gold - I set that still life up on my bedroom window ledge - on the ninth floor -- so that sunset sky in the background was out over Lake Ontario
